Therapeutic Boarding Schools. During my online travels to other resources for parents of troubled teens, I’ve noticed 3 sites that provide a vast archive full of information and help. Troubled teens can’t be “figured out” by just one person, or two. So, I’ve taken the time to introduce you to some other parents and experts who have taken the time to provide us with informative resources and tips for parenting troubled teens.
3 Websites for Parents of Troubled Teens
1. TroubledTeenBlog.com is a blog from a family with a teen in a therapeutic boarding school. They share their difficulties, joys, and insights for parenting a teen. I enjoy the blog because of the helpfulness provided. Speaking about placing their son in a boarding school, the author said…

The path of having to a put a teen in a boarding school or treatment center challenges parents and is very, very tormenting.
2. TroubledTeenHelp.com is a “resource of information and places for struggling and troubled teens and young adults.” They have a large list of treatment centers for addictions, and also camps and programs for struggling teens. The site provides contact information for professionals that work with at-risk youth, including the founder of the site, Dore Frances, M.A. Dore Frances, M.A., is the Founder of Horizon Family Solutions, and “has assisted families and helped professionals find appropriate and best matched programs and schools for their at-risk preteen, teen and young adult.”
3. ParentingTeens.com writes very informative articles concerning the most popular issues that youth face today. Their topics include teen health, teen education, teen drug abuse, and tips for parenting teens. They have an online forum and a parent blog. I have not been able to locate the authors or names of the site owners.
If you are considering a therapeutic program, you should ask what their policy is in regard to corporal punishment before you place your child there. For instance, I’ve always found that “good” consequences are when a teen may lose a privilege they hold dear, or they may not advance to the next level (which has more privileges or prestige) as soon, or they may be required to do some light work to think about their error.
The better Christian boarding schools with a therapeutic approach have a high ratio of staff to students, sometimes as many as one staff member for each student on campus. Each student is assigned a specialized counselor, attends focus groups and the activities are specifically designed to build self-esteem and improve behavioral issues.
A therapeutic program and approach within a Christian boarding school is a good choice for many teen behavioral issues. In Christian boarding schools of this nature, teens will learn to determine what their weaknesses are and how it affects their behavior, and how to grow the opposing virtue which will help eliminate their destructive behaviors.
When situations of divorce, death, abuse, social difficulties, academic struggles, adoption issues, or victimization and unhealthy patterns of dealing with those issues a therapeutic Christian boarding school can offer a safe and life-changing alternative to boot camps, military academies, and wilderness programs.
If your teen is suffering from a loss or other emotional distress, or he is a good kid that just needs to get away from destructive peers, I recommend that you seek out a Christian boarding school with a therapeutic approach. Find more information about Boarding Schools Troubled Teens here.
