Prepare carefully if you want an academic job with health benefits
Graduate students aiming for tenured teaching positions are facing a new reality - a lot of the positions they could have applied to are cancelled and there are simply not enough academic jobs for all who want them.
If you want to teach at a university, try to get a PhD and real teaching experience.
Getting real teaching experience is especially difficult: some universities like Princeton limit leading courses to professors. If you can get experience teaching (not just precepting) when you study, you will get preference in the job market.
Otherwise, you may need to slog it out for a year or two in obscure colleges in low paying jobs without benefits, so you can get the experience you need to start applying to better positions.
